About us

Thrive is set up by Funding London, a venture capital company bridging the finance gap for early stage businesses based in London. With over a decade’s experience in supporting the startups of London through a variety of funding vehicles, Funding London sensed a need to illuminate the ever-evolving scenario of London’s early stage businesses.

Thrive features interviews with and opinion from budding entrepreneurs, investors and industry experts. A mix of contributors from all areas of the industry is desired in order to spark genuine discussion about ongoing critical issues. While it showcases the effectiveness of successful ventures, it also encourages sharing lessons learned from missteps and unsuccessful projects.

Fundraising During A Global Crisis

Navigating The Crisis Webinar Series

An informative panel discussion with three experienced early stage investors: John Spindler, CEO at Capital Enterprise, Co-Founder of the London Co-Investment Fund and AI Seed, Chris Smith, Managing Director at Playfair Capital and Oliver Richards, Partner at MMC Ventures. Our speakers provided insights and advice on the following topics:

  1. Government support schemes:
  • Future Fund
  • Bounce Back Loan
  1. Priority sectors for investors post Covid
  2. Potential impact of the crisis on founders from underrepresented groups
  3. Consequences of revenue drop on future fundraising
  4. How valuations at early stage have been affected
  5. Changes to the dynamic between investors and founders
  6. The impact on founders’ wellbeing

Even though the pandemic shocked the early stage market and numerous other sectors, investors seem to be adjusting to the new normal. Investment decisions taken based on only virtual interactions have already started to emerge. Early stage investors are becoming more comfortable with a new reality where all operations have been forced to move online, including meeting new founders and due diligence.
